ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent, Indigenous Way of Life, the Indigenous Education Coordinator is responsible for supporting schools in planning for the implementation of actions and strategies from the Mamàhtawisiwin framework to meet student needs. The incumbent will develop and deliver culturally proficient, professional and experiential learning opportunities for teachers and staff to assist schools in moving from cultural awareness to cultural competency with a focus on shifting teacher practice.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor of Education Degree and valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
  • Proven knowledge of provincial curriculum, instructional strategies, resources and assessments
  • Experience implementing Mamàhtawisiwin Provincial Policy Framework, and knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and Land Based pedagogy
  • Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation and delivery of professional learning opportunities specifically related to Indigenous Way of Life and Indigenous pedagogy
  • Valid Manitoba driver's license and ability to travel extensively, including overnight, and flexible work hours
  • In-depth knowledge and lived experience of Indigenous history, truth and reconciliation calls to action, Indigenous knowledge systems, models and methodologies
  • Experience working alongside Knowledge Keepers, Elders, Grandparents, and Community.
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language would be an asset
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
  • Teaching experience at all levels (Early, Middle and Senior Years) would be an asset

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work collectively with teachers to utilize best practices, strategies and resources that enrich curricular outcomes and connect to Indigenous content and pedagogy.
  • Support schools in the implementation of Indigenous Academic Achievement (IAA) school-based plans
  • Support Community Schools (CSP) and Building Students Success with Indigenous Parents (BSSIP) programming, planning, and reporting.
  • Assist in the identification, acquisition, and distribution of materials and community resources for use by instructional staff to enhance student learning
  • Provide in-class modelling of effective strategies for teachers to use to enhance Indigenous Student Academic Achievement
  • Research and adapt instructional and assessment resources/materials for IAA.
  • Develop departmental resources related to Indigenous ways of knowing, doing and being for teachers
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Frontier's strategic plan, and school plans
  • Consult and collaborate with support teams to align best practices from an Indigenous lens
