Contract Type:  Term 1.00 FTE; Full Time (approximately 30 hours per week)

• Monday - Thursday: 8:35 AM to 3:37 PM
• Friday: 8:35 AM to 11:58 AM (Staff will be required to stay longer when training is being held)*

Duration of Position:  Immediately - June 29, 2027

ABOUT THE POSITION:  Brooks Composite High School is seeking applications for a Mainstream Educational Assistant (EA) to support high school students in their learning, development, and preparation for success in the grades ahead.

This is a full-time, term position beginning immediately, and ending on June 29, 2027.

Everything we do in Grasslands supports student learning and achievement and this position requires an applicant who works well under pressure and in energetic environments while upholding the values of the division. This role requires patience, kindness, and resiliency, and an understanding of the importance of this role for our students, colleagues, and community.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL:  Brooks Composite High School is located in the city of Brooks, Alberta. The city has a population of approximately 14,000 people is located In South Eastern Alberta along the Trans-Canada Highway between Calgary and Medicine Hat. BCHS is a high school of about 620 students in grades 10-12. We offer a full range of all the academic offerings in addition to a well respected vocational program that includes Mechanics, Construction, Cosmetology, Foods and Digital Media. We also offer a fine arts program that includes visual arts and performing arts including Music and Drama. In addition, we are pleased to host the district Inclusive Education Program and have a large ELL program that serves the needs of many newcomers to Canada. We are also very proud of the athletic and extracurricular programs at our school. Job Duties:

• support students with instruction and learning activities, as well as their physical, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
• encourage positive and respectful interactions between students and staff;
• work closely and collaboratively with classroom teachers , school administration, and other members of the school team.
• Provide appropriate physical support and personal care, including lifting and transferring students, as required.
• Support students in participating in school activities , which may include swimming, outdoor sports, and other school-based activities.
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students can succeed.

Ideal candidates skills & abilities:

• Strong written, verbal, and reading communication skills.
• The ability to support students across subject areas appropriate to their grade level .
• The ability to support students with literacy and numeracy development .
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills .
• A genuine interest in working with elementary-aged students, including Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
• An understanding and appreciation of the mission and values of Grasslands Public Schools .
• The ability to contribute to a student-centred classroom and social environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Respect for and sensitivity toward individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• An understanding of the important role Educational Assistants play in supporting students, families, and the broader community.
• Personal integrity, trustworthiness, and the ability to establish positive relationships and rapport with students and coworkers.
• Patience, flexibility, resilience, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in a busy school environment.

Education and Certifications:

• High school diploma.
• Experience working with children or other vulnerable populations in an educational, healthcare, or related setting.

Considered an asset but not a requirement:

• Post-secondary training in education, Educational Assistant, child development, or a related field
• Two or more years of experience working with children or in an education setting.

              *A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Selected candidates of choice must submit the following as a condition of employment:

• A Current Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
• The original document is required to be submitted, and reported within the last 6 months of hire date.

Applicants cannot work before a clear CRC with VSC has been provided and cleared by the Superintendent.
