K-3 Core Music Teacher for various Elementary Schools

THE ROLE:
The Core Music Program, based on the Ministry Arts Education curriculum, is taught by itinerant teachers. The Core Music teacher will:
MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
A) A valid B.C. Teacher’s Certificate;
B) Satisfactory practicum / teaching experience in elementary education (preferably K-4) or other teaching experience deemed to be comparable: and
C) Bachelors specialization in music or music education or a Graduate Diploma (PB+15) Program – Elementary Music Specialization.
As an alternate to (C) above, the following are viewed as equivalent training:
1.demonstrated ability to read music; and
2. one course with a significant component of Music pedagogy such as SFU – Education 478-4 (Designs for Learning: Music); UVIC – Music 237 (Music in the Elementary School Curriculum); or, UBC equivalent to the above courses; and,
3. three university level courses (or the equivalent) from any of the following areas:
It is preferred that Core Music Teachers possess a specialization in one of the following:
Ranges for $63,000 to $116,000, with placement on the range based on length of service, FTE and qualifications in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
