Delta School District is seeking applications for the position of District Principal, Indigenous Education.
The Delta School District aims to be an innovative, inclusive community where all learners belong, and everyone soars. We are a District of more than 16,000 students and 3,000 employees. The District's mission is to inspire and nurture thriving, future-ready learners at each of its 31 schools, located in Ladner, North Delta, and Tsawwassen. Our schools and District offices are located on the traditional territories of the Tsawwassen and Musqueam First Nations. The District offers its respect to the Knowledge Keepers and all First Peoples who have been stewards on these lands since time immemorial.
The District Principal, Indigenous Learning (“District Principal”) provides system-wide leadership in advancing Indigenous Education in the Delta School District. They are responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing a range of strategies, programs and agreements that support student success, positive cultural identity, and the well-being of indigenous students. The goal is to address the achievement gap for Indigenous learners, promote Indigenous culture, pride, language and traditions, and inspire staff to create inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive learning environments for Indigenous students. Working in close partnership with the Indigenous Education Council (in particular Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band), the District Principal collaborates with Indigenous families and students, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, Delta schools, district leadership, federal and provincial agencies, local unions, and Delta Learning Services staff. The District Principal, Indigenous Education reports to the Director of Learning Services.
