This position is effective July 2, 2024, and ends on or about August 9, 2024. Hiring for this position will take place on an ongoing basis (between the months of March to June), determined by system needs.

All Summer Institute (SI) programs operate from July 2 to August 9. The hours are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. The SI Site locations are:

  • Aldergrove PS (Markham)
  • Ellen Fairclough PS (Markham)
  • Fairwood PS (Keswick)
  • Glen Cedar PS (Newmarket)
  • Oscar Peterson P.S. (Stouffville)
  • Regency Acres (Aurora)
  • Sixteenth Avenue PS (Richmond Hill)
  • Teston Village PS (Maple)
  • Woodbridge PS (Woodbridge)

Building Blocks to Kindergarten (BBFK) and Building Bridges to Grade One (BB1) programs operate for 4 weeks from July 2 to July 26 at various locations across the region. BBFK hours are Tuesday to Friday 8:45 am to 12:45 pm with Mondays as an optional professional development. BB1 hours are Tuesday to Friday 8:30 to 4:00 pm with Mondays as an optional professional development.

Age: 18 years (by June 21, 2024) or older

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist with the planning and delivery of Summer Institute programs under the direction of the Summer Institute Principal and Summer Institute Program Leaders
  • To care for and supervise all participants during program hours including excursions
  • To demonstrate positive leadership qualities
  • To actively participate in the daily operation of the Summer Institute and special activities associated with it
  • To contribute to the staff team environment
  • To attend a mandatory Summer Institute training day in June
  • Other duties as assigned

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.

Additional Information - Community and International Education Services (CIES):

The Community and International Education Services (CIES) hiring protocol allows teachers to teach and/or administrate for two CIES sessions per school year and/or administrate one term/session at a time. Candidates will only be allowed to teach and/or administrate a third session on an emergency basis in consideration of demand in a particular subject area, course or administrative position. A session is defined as the time needed to deliver a 4 – 6 week program (approximately 110 hours for credit courses) or the equivalent. CIES sessions include positions at e-Learning, Night School, Summer School, International Languages Secondary Credit and Elementary Non-Credit Programs and Summer Institute.
