JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Educational Services, and board Speech-Language Pathologists, the Communicative Disorders Assistant will be required to implement approved programing in support of students. As part of a multi-disciplinary approach, the special education team supports schools and students using a tiered, educational model of service delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates with home setting and school for program delivery
- Conducts language screening of students at schools throughout board jurisdiction
- Arranges and delivers one-to-one and small group articulation therapy and language programs based on assessment and support plan of Speech- Language Pathologist
- Prepares notes, reports and tracks inventory and resources for Speech-Language Pathologist
- Collaborates with school teams and provides support to classroom teachers and other staff
- Models strategies for staff
- Prepares relevant materials for program delivery based on student specific data
- Implement, troubleshoot, and support augmentative and alternative communication tools
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Communicative Disorders Assistant Graduate Certificate program from an accredited training facility or equivalent;
- Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and judgement associated with tasks assigned by a Speech-Language Pathologist;
- Experience working with individuals with complex communication needs;
- A self-motivated, critical thinking team player with superior inter-personal and organizational skills;
- A composed, discreet and professional manner; demonstrates the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent command of verbal and written English;
- A valid Ontario Driver’s License in good standing with the Ministry of Transportation, and access to a reliable mode of transportation for travel among the Board’s schools and offices;
- Dedicated to continuing education and attending related Board-sponsored courses/seminars, etc.
