Start Date / Term:

August 26, 2026 to June 29, 2027 or subject to the regular employee returning.

Assignment/Contract:

7.5 hours/day –Temporary – Out of Scope

GSSD is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Indigenous Education Consultant specializing in Indigenization of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum, provincial policy and frameworks on Indigenous Education. Experience with Indigenous language frameworks, instruction and land-based education would be an asset. This role involves leading professional learning and supporting administrators, school teams, and individual teachers in advancing the achievement of Indigenous learners.

The successful applicant will have the following knowledge, skills, abilities and educational background:

Key Responsibilities: 

• Provide leadership and expert guidance on Indigenous Education in the implementation of the Saskatchewan curriculum with a focus on culturally affirming practices, anti-racist education, in alignment with provincial policy frameworks, to support the achievement of Indigenous learners.
•  Collaborate with consultants, school administrators, teams, and individual teachers to develop and enhance relationships, environments and interactions and promote understanding and implementation of Provincial Policy on Indigenous Education.
• Support the implementation of Indigenous achievement-focused initiatives, such as Following Their Voices, and Invitational Shared Services Initiatives to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
• Coordinate and support division cultural events, community engagement initiatives, and Elder/Knowledge Keeper involvement in schools.
•  Assist in the design and delivery of professional development sessions focused on culturally affirming instruction, promoting cultural understanding, and supporting anti-racist education best practices.
•   Analyze Indigenous student data to inform instructional decisions, professional development and improve student outcomes.
• Offer ongoing support and mentorship to educators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
•  Stay updated with current trends and research in Indigenous student engagement and to provide cutting-edge support and resources.
•  Contribute to the development and review of curriculum materials, ensuring they are culturally relevant, engaging, and effective.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field. A Master’s degree in Education, Indigenous Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or another relevant discipline is preferred.
• Eligibility for or possession of a Saskatchewan Professional “A” Teaching Certificate is preferred. Equivalent education, training, and experience from related sectors will be considered.
•  Extensive knowledge of the Saskatchewan curricula and Inspiring Success: First Nations and Métis PreK-12 Education Policy Framework  
• Demonstrated expertise in the integration of Indigenous perspectives, histories, cultures, and ways of knowing into curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
•  Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience working with middle years learners in educational settings.
•  Experience supporting curriculum development, instructional leadership, professional learning, or program implementation in Pre-K to Grade 12 educational environments is considered an asset.
•   Candidates with relevant experience in Indigenous education, community engagement, youth development, curriculum design, post-secondary education, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
•  An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
•  Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
