Thunderbird School is a Nursery to Grade 10 school with approximately 270 students. It is located in South Indian Lake, which is a community with a population of approximately 1000 people. It is located 130 air-kilometers northwest of Thompson, MB. Road access into South Indian Lake is approximately 327 kms, year round gravel road and a short ferry ride. This lakeside town offers community services such as a grocery store, health complex and a community hall.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Education Degree
• Valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
• A sound knowledge of provincial Early Years curricula
• Previous Early Years teaching experience
• Strong classroom management skills
• Knowledge of Indigenous Way of Life
• Experience with integrating Indigenous culture and land-based teaching into curriculum
• Experience working with students with unique needs
• A commitment to differentiated instruction
• A willingness to inquire into best practices and reflect on practices
• A team player committed to the belief that all students can learn
• Self-motivated
While the primary language of operations is English, the Division promotes the learning and use of local Indigenous languages.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
Prepare courses for presentation to students according to approved curriculum
Teach students using a systematic plan
Identify children's individual learning needs
Prepare, administer and correct tests
Evaluate the progress of students and discuss results with students and parents/guardians
