Yukon Education is looking for teacher on calls for Khàtìnas.àxh Community School  in Teslin  for the 2025/2026 school year. To learn more about the school and community, please visit Khàtìnas.àxh Community School.

The Inland Tlingit community of Teslin is located on the shores of Teslin Lake in the southern Yukon. The community was first settled in the mid 19th century by Coastal Tlingit traders and explorers who had been travelling inland regularly in earlier times. The village became more permanent during the 1940's when the Alaska Highway was built through the area.
Teacher on calls replace regular classroom teachers or education assistants on an as needed basis. They are responsible for delivering set lesson plans, maintaining the positive learning climate of the school, managing students and expectations in the classroom and broader learning environments, and collaborating with other educators as needed to ensure the success of the students in their class. Supervising students during recess/lunch breaks as well as participating in arrival and dismissal duties may also be part of the daily responsibilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience working with children in a school or childcare setting
  • Bachelor of Education (Elementary, Middle or Secondary) degree, or equivalent training would be an asset
  • A valid Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate, or in progress would be an asset
     


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:

  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out general oral and written instructions with a minimum of supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy and tact in the explanation and exchange of information
  • Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations students as well as a culturally diverse student population

Conditions of Employment:

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
