ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking applications for a reliable and positive Full-Time Temporary Bus Shop Service Worker to join our team at Grasslands Public Schools. The ideal candidate is a strong team player who will take pride in performing essential preventative maintenance for the Grasslands bus fleet and will understand that the work performed at the bus shop directly contributes to the safety of students each day. This person must support workplace safety and aligns with our division’s values. This temporary position has an end date of April 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension based on operational requirements. This position reports to the lead mechanic.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine and seasonal preparation maintenance on school division bus fleet, including oil changes, fluid checks, replacing wiper blades, replacing clearance lights, and other basic repairs
- Inspect vehicles for safety, operational, and maintenance issues
- Assist with troubleshooting and minor mechanical repairs under guidance as needed
- Safely move school buses in and out of maintenance bays and reposition vehicles throughout the facility yard to support repair and service operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bus shop and tools
- Record maintenance and service activities accurately, following school division procedures
- Report any safety hazards or mechanical issues to supervisor promptly
- Support the bus shop team with general maintenance tasks as assigned
- Operate basic hand tools and equipment

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid class 5 license
- Previous experience in vehicle maintenance, general repair, or related work is an asset
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance tasks
- Ability to use hand tools and operate basic shop equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
- Good organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Strong mechanical aptitude for routine vehicle maintenance
- Ability to operate hand tools and basic shop equipment safely
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

- Effective communication skills, able to report issues clearly and follow instructions
- Will take pride in maintaining the Grasslands bus fleet and will understand that every task in the bus shop directly supports student safety and the smooth operation of the division’s transportation program
- Able to work in a loud and fast paced garage environment with possible exposure to vehicle fumes, heavy equipment, noise, and dust, and some work performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Able to work in a physically demanding environment, including; working in tight awkward positions; climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching, lifting, carrying, pulling, and pushing; and prolonged sitting or standing.
