The Near North District School Board is a diverse, public educational organization in North Eastern Ontario. Our school district consists of dedicated people committed to quality education that fosters life-long learning for all, through creative and meaningful learning experiences. More than 9,600 students attend our schools, with approximately 6,600 students enrolled in our elementary schools and nearly 3,000 secondary students. We are also proud to provide students with alternative and continuing education program experiences throughout the region. The Near North District School Board is host to and celebrates students from diverse cultures. We employ approximately 2,300 permanent and occasional staff members. We have 36 elementary, secondary and alternative learning schools. Geographically, the Near North District School Board is one of the largest public school boards in Ontario covering over 17,000 square kilometers. Serving much of the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts, along with a portion of the Muskoka District, we are bordered by Georgian Bay to the west and the Ottawa River to the east. Our region extends north to Temagami and south to Huntsville, Algonquin Park and Muskoka Lakes. The Near North Region provides a beautiful area to live and thrive, boasting stunning sunsets on many bodies of water, scenic parks and various recreation opportunities, a friendly atmosphere and small town values.

Required Qualifications:

• A valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate
• A valid Certification of Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers
• Principals Qualification: Parts 1 and 2

Position Criteria:

• Knowledge of Ministry, Curriculum, and Assessment documents
• Knowledge of Specialized programming
• Successful Experience as Principal in Secondary panels is an asset
• Demonstrated understanding of the Ontario Leadership Framework and evidence of success in the 5 Core Capacities
• Demonstrated knowledge of change management strategies
• Evidence of understanding of varied learners with a focus on ‘at-risk’ students
• Evidence of the ability to create and carry out a strategic plan
• Ability to build school teams and to communicate effectively
• Experience with Indigenous communities and diverse cultures is an asset
