Discovery School is an independent grade 3-12 certified special education school in Victoria, BC specializing in students with diverse learning needs. We are looking for two enthusiastic and qualified Student Educational Assistants to work approximately 8:30 am to 3:15 pm, Monday to Friday, with grade 9-12 students one on one and in small groups supporting all academic areas. One SEA will be assigned primarily to Math and Science related course subjects and the other to primarily English and Socials courses. Playground supervision will also be scheduled. We are a dedicated staff looking for a like-minded individual who will share in our passion to engage students in their learning and building their successes in school and life.
Candidates must have at very minimum of Grade 12 graduation with a Special Education Teacher Assistant Certification, or an undergraduate degree. Assets and experience that make a strong candidate are: training in education, excellent knowledge of learning disorders and autism, behaviour intervention experience, familiarity with BC curriculum, strong task analysis skills, and an ability to relate, encourage, and work with a variety of students. Must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues. Competency in English and Math is a must. Candidates must have superb written, verbal, computer and interpersonal skills, and be able to multi-task in a busy environment. The successful candidates will possess strong student management skills, and good communication skills. Preference will be given to those that are teacher certified. SEAs that hold teacher qualifications are given substitution days when available. First Aide certification needs to be up to date, or willing to recertify. The successful candidate will need to complete a CRC.
