Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority serves a total student population of approximately 500+ students. We are seeking 2 passionate and culturally responsive teachers to inspire and guide our students in developing strong communication, critical thinking, creative expression skills and provide grade-level programming to students from Kindergarten to Grade 1. Through ongoing learning activities, timely feedback, and assessment, we ensure students and families have the resources they need to be successful and a clear understanding of their progress toward meeting grade-level learning outcomes. Commit to decolonizing teaching practices, and foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects and celebrates Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver comprehensive instruction aligned with the curriculum while incorporating Indigenous literature, storytelling traditions, and perspectives. Promote the exploration of Indigenous voices and experiences.

  • Differentiated Instruction: Employ diverse instructional strategies to cater to various learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Implement adaptations and supports to ensure accessibility for all students, recognizing the unique needs of Indigenous learners.

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and administer formative and summative assessments (e.g., projects, presentations, essays, tests, quizzes) to measure student progress and provide constructive feedback. Utilize assessment methods that are culturally sensitive and respectful of Indigenous ways of knowing.

  • Classroom Management: Establish a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment by setting clear expectations, promoting positive student behaviour, and implementing effective classroom management techniques that align with Indigenous cultural values and practices.

  • Mentorship and Guidance: Provide guidance and support for students' academic, personal, and social development. Foster connections with Elders and Knowledge Keepers in the community.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and support staff to enhance student learning outcomes and well-being.

  • Professional Development: Actively participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching practice, decolonize education, and stay current with evolving educational approaches for Indigenous learners.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Education

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.

  • Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire diverse learners.

  • Commitment to inclusion, equity, and creating a culturally responsive classroom environment.


Additional Desired Skills:


  • Experience in integrating technology for innovative teaching and learning.

  • Familiarity with assessment for learning principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of adolescent development and psychology.

  • Experience working in Indigenous communities or a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and perspectives.
