School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay) has a continuing Principalship opportunity at Frank J. Mitchell Elementary in Sparwood, BC.
School District No. 5 serves the five communities (Elkford, Sparwood, Fernie, Jaffray, and Cranbrook) within the District. The District is contained fully within the Ktunaxa Nation, including the communities of ?aq'am and Yaqit ?a-knuqli'it.
The communities within the district are filled with beautiful scenery and endless outdoor opportunities, including the renowned Kimberley Alpine and Fernie Alpine Ski Resort. In addition, the area offers a range of resort/tourism-focused municipalities, forestry and mining operations.

School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay) invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Principal at Frank J Mitchell Elementary School in the community of Sparwood, BC. Frank J Mitchell Elementary School is a Grade K-6 school with approximately 375-400 students.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for teacher certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch.
- Must have a Master in leadership, curriculum, or another relevant field.
- Teaching/degree/training at the elementary/middle school level.
- 5+ years of Administration experience will be considered an asset.
- Background in trauma-informed schools.
- Social-emotional learning will be considered an asset.
- Proven success working with at-risk students.
Must have demonstrated the ability to:
- Initiate and organize effective school programs, activities, and services.
- Be an effective instructional leader with knowledge of current research in instructional practices.
- Be knowledgeable of special education, and current teaching strategies for students needing extra support.
- Strong knowledge of the renewed BC curriculum and competencies.
- Be an experienced educator with a strong commitment to public education.
- Implement strong, current pedagogical practices with inquiry and project-based or place-conscious learning.
- Lead with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
- Promote and build educational and professional leadership with students, parents, staff and community.
- Be a team builder and team player strengthening and maintaining a professional learning community.
- Be committed to the school and community involvement.
- Be knowledgeable of school contractual and budgetary matters.
- Be committed to moving Truth and Reconciliation forward both personally and in the school community.
- Work effectively with district management.
Salary Range: $149,119 - 157,560
