Our 200+ Waldorf School is currently seeking a qualified leader for a full-time High School Principal position to start as soon as possible. The HS Principal serves as the day-to-day leader of Whistler Waldorf School’s High School. The HS Principal is accountable for upholding the legal, pedagogical requirements for operating a Waldorf school in the province of British Columbia, including but not limited to curriculum planning, delivery, assessment of learning, progress reporting, student safety and parent relations. As a member of the school leadership team, the HS Principal works in a collaborative and consultative manner with the school stakeholders to support the mission, vision and values of the Whistler Waldorf School.

Specific responsibilities are listed below:

Legal:

  • Awareness and accountability of legal requirements for operating an independent school in the province of B.C. with regards to education and student safety and ensuring compliance with all regulations
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information
  • Awareness of risk management and how it pertains to operation of the school
  • Supports Registrar in ensuring student files are maintained according to WWS policies

Leadership

  • Represents the Whistler Waldorf School with the Ministry of Education, the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and ensures the appropriate pedagogical policies, procedures and accompanying documentation is maintained with respect to operating a Waldorf school in the province of British Columbia
  • Provides day to day leadership to Whistler Waldorf School faculty, staff, students, and parents/guardians
  • Supervises and evaluates the Lower School, High School, and Student Support Chairs
  • Works in partnership with the Chairs to ensure curriculum oversight, and teacher development and evaluation
  • Supervises external mentors, evaluators or educational consultants as required
  • Monitors and tracks Key Performance Indicators as identified in WWS’ Strategic Plan
  • Collaborates with Operational Management Team to set measurable annual goals for the school based on annual strategic plan review

    Human Resources

  • Conducts or oversees faculty performance evaluations for all faculty members as per evaluation guidelines.
  • Oversees faculty enrichment and improvement plans as needed
  • Reviews and assesses requirements for hiring and scheduling as it relates to student numbers, programming, and operations budget in partnership with the Chairs
  • Participates in the hiring process for faculty and staff in partnership with the Chairs
  • Ensures faculty compliance with all policies and procedures

    Administration

  • Oversees progress report writing prior to distribution with Education Administrator and Chairs
  • Ensures educational quality through regular educational program review and improvement based on the strategic plan and relevant data as well as the Whistler Waldorf School’s mission and vision
  • Ensures Permanent Student Record forms are completed for each student at the end of each school year by their respective teachers and Registrar
  • Ensures completion of long-term, mid-term and short-term lesson planning as required for the Ministry of Education (Planbook) with Education Administrator and Chairs
  • Oversees the IEP/ILP process and documentation in partnership with the Student Support Chair
  • Ensures that all attendance processes are managed according to policy in collaboration with Reception
  • Approves field trips and guest speakers
  • Coordinates academic schedule in collaboration with Chairs and Education Administrator
  • Oversees annual Foundational Skills Assessment for grades 4 and 7 with Lower School Chair
  • Works with Operational Management Team to complete monitoring and evaluation visits and AWSNA accreditation
  • Reviews and approves new student applications and makes recommendations for placement with Director of Advancement

    General

  • Fosters an environment where healthy relations and communication between faculty, PAC and parents are maintained
  • Ensures opportunities for parent education and understanding of Waldorf education are created and encouraged to build and maintain a healthy level of enrolment to support the overall financial health of the school
  • Fields concerns from parents/guardians about their child or their child’s education and provides support, takes appropriate action, including communicating in a timely manner and ensuring closure of the issue in accordance with the school’s communication policy
  • Mediates in situations where parent/teacher communication needs support to reach mutual understanding and resolution
  • Works collaboratively with the Chairs to create a safe and positive school environment for students
  • Facilitates Discipline Stream process for students as required
  • Chairs faculty meetings and leads parent meetings in coordination with the Chairs
  • Oversees and attends all events and festivals
  • Attends leadership meetings including Operational Management Team and College of Teachers on a weekly basis and Board meetings as required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A Canadian citizen and/or eligible to work in Canada with a current Criminal Record Check.
  • Fully certified teacher in BC (or be eligible to apply for a BC license) with a bachelor’s degree of their specialty or equivalent post-secondary graduation, diploma and/or technical certificate.
  • 5+ years of teaching experience and preferred candidates will have 3+ years of educational leadership experience
  • Familiar with Waldorf school philosophy including educational principles, techniques and methods through practical experience and ideally holds Waldorf teacher training credentials.
  • Professional with excellent communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to foster team-based relationships with students, parents and others
  • Experienced in human resources including hiring and firing, evaluation, progressive discipline techniques and personnel administration
  • Proficient in working with computers, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Focused dedication to the mission and vision of the Whistler Waldorf School

  • BC ERASE Bullying Certification
