Sunchild First Nation School has an opening for a Cree Language Instructor. The school administration is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual who is willing to join an incredible staff who brings experience, endless energy and devotion to teaching Aboriginal youth.
The successful applicant needs to speak Cree, be highly organized, creative and able to develop a safe, stimulating classroom environment centred on lessons that are actively engaging to students and encourage student success in learning their language and culture.
Sunchild School is a K to Grade 12 School with 350 students and 70 staff. The staff are dedicated to student-centred programming that promotes academic excellence as well as exposing students to innovative extracurricular activities.
The school is located 65 km northwest of Rocky Mountain House. We have teacher housing available to interested new staff, a competitive pension and benefit package, as well as salaries comparable to the provincial school boards.
Teachers must be eligible for Alberta Teachers certification and have a willingness to be involved in extracurricular activities. This position is also available to Cree Language Instructors who are not certified teachers but have a very good command of the Cree Language, understand the pedagogy of instruction and are able to manage a classroom environment. The successful candidate must also submit a criminal record check and intervention record checks as a condition of employment.
