The School District

Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Nedut'en and Wet'suweten peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC.

We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities and a lower cost of living than many other regions. Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary).
  • Minimum completion of 3rd and 4th year level university course work necessary for teaching the senior level curricula that are part of this assignment.
  • A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership with The Ministry of Education and Childcare.
  • Have completed or working towards a graduate degree recognized by the Ministry of Education and Childcare in Counselling Psychology.
  • Must be willing to work in a supportive and cooperative manner with existing district inclusive education personnel, regular teaching staff, and administration in the delivery of a comprehensive counseling program at the elementary level, as well as work in support of district directions and undertakings.
  • Must be willing to become familiar with changing child abuse reporting regulations and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in administration of suicide risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the counseling role, willingness to build experience in developing I.E.P.s in the provision of individualized programs for students exhibiting emotional and behavioural disorders.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and a keen interest in exploring alternate, innovative and collaborative methods of working with students and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to use inclusive instruction to meet the learning needs of diverse learners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working from an inclusion perspective to address diverse learning needs
  • Understand and use a trauma-informed approach in professional practice.
  • Experience and knowledge using competency-based assessment strategies.
  • Experience in differentiating instruction to create success in learning for each student.
  • Experience in integrating appropriate technologies into instructional practices to improve learning outcomes for students.
