Responsible for the operation of a heavy motor vehicle to safely transport students to and from schools and activities.
Includes the safe, efficient operation of a school bus, some knowledge of the mechanical operation of a bus and the responsibility for maintaining a mechanically sound vehicle.
The names of successful applicants, once trained, will be placed on a replacement driver list, and may be called to work on an as-required basis.
School bus drivers typically work a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon (Monday-Friday). Drivers do not work on weekends, statutory holidays, summer break, Christmas break, March break & snow days, however, extra hours may be available if desired (school field trips, after school events, weekend sport tournaments, etc.).
Qualifications
Graduation from High School or GED
Driver's license with a clear driving record, a good medical record with no heart conditions
Strong orientation towards safety and good interpersonal and communication skills
Selected candidates will be required to complete a week-long District training course to be held August 26-30, 2024.
To operate a school bus, you will require a class 2BE driver's license. If you do not currently have a class 2BE license, we provide all required training to help you obtain one. The process involves:
Complete a 5-day training course (August 26-30, 2024), obtain a clean criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, a drivers abstract, a vision test, a written test, and a road test. Once a 2BE license is obtained, we provide paid behind the wheel training, and reimbursement for most licensing costs.
