Indigenous Achievement Tutor

(Casual Non-Union Support Staff)

Temporary assignment from April 1 to June 21, 2024 with possibility of extension

Unqualified rate of pay - $27.15/hour for 6.5 hours per day

Qualified rate of pay $36.18/hour for 6.5 hours per day

DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Elementary School Principal,

• Support classroom teachers by providing tutorial assistance to First Nation students
• Tutor students on a one to one or small group basis
• Communicate with staff
• Assist with the orientation of new students
• Liaise with the Student Services team and Education Counselors.
• Promote a positive attitude towards learning
• Offer support with student supervision

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma
• One (1) year experience working with First Nation students, parents and community is preferred
• Knowledge and understanding of First Nation culture, heritage, values and history
• Awareness of barriers faced by First Nations students and strategies to address barriers
• Good verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
