About Qualicum School District

Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. Qualicum School District also embraces many community organizations through various school programs. The assignment may change to meet the needs of the school’s educational program, grade organization, and/or enrollment.

0.86 FTE TEMPORARY

Commencing September 1, 2024 until June 30, 2025 or upon notification that the temporary position will end earlier due to budgetary issues or declining enrollment. The anticipated end date of this assignment is June 30, 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Plan and deliver developmentally responsive learning experience which reflect the unique needs of learners in an alternative program context;

  • Plan and implement effective student assessment in order to improve student learning and to ensure instructional practice which is responsive to student needs;

  • Actively contribute to the success of the school’s Enhancing Student Learning Plan and the district’s Strategic Priorities;

  • Work collaboratively with parents, district staff, outside professionals and community agencies while also maintaining healthy boundaries;

  • Teach in a variety of learning environments within the school and community;

  • Create an engaging, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students;

  • Work in consultation with Learning Support teachers in the development, implementation, communication, monitoring and evaluation of support plans (Class Support Plans, IEP, behavior plans, safety plans) for students who require additional supports;

  • Integrate use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to support teaching and learning, manage information and carry out professional communication;

  • Offer and plan for instruction in a continuous entry program with flexible approaches to curriculum design and delivery;

  • Teach to both singular curricular content and/or cross-curricular projects.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A valid BC Teaching Certificate at the secondary level;

  • Certification in Trauma Informed Practice, Non-Violent Communication skills, and/or Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training;

  • Training or experience teaching students with Intensive and Moderate Behaviour designated students, severe social emotional challenges and/or substance use;

  • Experience working with Nations to deliver educational programs that honour local traditional ways would be an asset.
