The District Teacher – Humanities and Secondary Literacy works as part of the Instructional Services Department and District Support Team, which supports the Langley School District’s direction in literacy, numeracy, transitions and standards-based assessment through exemplary practices in Universal Design, and the integration of technology.

This is a position of Special Responsibility that will include creating resources, presenting workshops and providing in-service and direct support to teachers to support them in quality instruction and the implementation of the curriculum, specifically, but not exclusively in the Humanities. The successful candidate will also work with Secondary schools around the implementation of effective literacy screening practices, supports, and interventions that will include leading the work with schools around the use of the District’s Secondary Reading Assessment Protocol (SRAP) and working with various district departments and with a wide range of professionals. The successful candidate must demonstrate a deep knowledge in effective literacy assessment, instruction, and intervention strategies as well as a demonstrated ability to facilitate and work with complex multi-role and cross-disciplinary district and school teams.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Equip site-based staff to develop their professional practice by working alongside staff in schools on a consistent and ongoing basis.
  • Model inclusive strategies and practices (e.g. Universal Design for Learning, assessment, and interventions).
  • Co-design and co-teach with TTOCs, UTTOCs, Classroom, ELL, and Resource Teachers in schools.
  • Set up vacant K-12 classrooms, including systems, structures, and environmental design
  • Serve as an enrolling teacher (including as a TTOC) in vacancies as needed.
  • Collaborate in the design of district resources, systems, and structures.
  • Plan and present in-services and professional development activities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Nurture the gifts of all students.
  • Support the implementation and development of Langley School District’s Framework for Teaching and Learning.
  • Model, support, and integrate Trauma-Informed practice with staff and students, utilizing District approved strategies and resources.
  • Support the implementation of Langley School District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree, or equivalent training.
  • Is qualified to teach English and Social Studies (Humanities)
  • Two years of successful teaching experience in the regular classroom
  • A valid Teacher Regulation Branch Certificate, or in progress
  • Be able to philosophically and pedagogically meet the needs of a broad range of students
  • Two years of successful teaching experience in regular programs
  • Demonstrated ability in effective communication and collaborative/consultative skills

  • The starting annual salary for this School Teacher position ranges from $50,000 to $104,000, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
