The Department of Education, Government of Nunavut, is seeking applicants for term and indeterminate teaching positions in the Kitikmeot region, starting August 2024.
Kitikmeot School Operations is responsible for schools in the following communities: Kugaaruk, Taloyoak, Gjoa Haven, Cambridge Bay and Kugluktuk
The following teaching assignments may be available:
Assignments of appointees may change due to operational requirements. In compliance with Article 7.02 of the Nunavut Teacher's Association Collective Agreement, all positions will be posted as individual competitions with defined closing dates.
Applicants interested in specific competitions must apply in accordance with the instructions indicated in the post. Applicants applying in response to this general posting will only be considered if the specific competition is unsuccessful.
Language of instruction requirements (Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or English) will be clearly noted in the individual postings
The Government of Nunavut offers a competitive salary, supplemented by a northern living allowance, which varies by community. Salaries range from $83,643 to $131,151. Nunavut Northern Allowance ranges from $19,716 to $30,424. Teachers in Nunavut are public service employees and enrolled in the federal superannuation plan. The Government of Nunavut pays for relocation from any point in Canada as outlined in the Nunavut Teachers Association Collective Agreement. Subsidized staff housing is typically available for every position, although [b]sharing of accommodations may be required[/b]. In some communities other rental accommodation may be available. All teachers are members of the Nunavut Teachers Association.

Applicants must submit a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that are dated no more than six months prior to the position start date, as indicated on individual competition posts. Applicants will be required to provide an acceptable CRC and VSC before a written offer will be made. Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate. All applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of application.
