Hours:                  6.5 hours per day, for all days school is in session

Rate of Pay:    $ 3 4 . 48 / ho ur

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director of Instruction, Learning Services and functional direction of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), participates in the planning, development and implementation of programming for students who are part of the speech and/or language therapy caseload. Provides services and support to students, in classrooms at various schools in the District. Travel will be required and mileage is provided as per Board policy.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assists the SLP with the screening and assessment of students; scores diagnostic tests.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • In collaboration with the SLP, researches and creates appropriate expressive and receptive language programs for students on caseload.
  • Provides direct treatment to students, in-class, one-on-one, and in small groups.
  • Records student progress towards meeting established goals and objectives outlined in the treatment plans and reports findings to the SLP; meets regularly to discuss student progress and therapy implications.
  • Provides input to the IEP and student progress reports and performs record keeping functions including student learning and behaviour data collection.
  • Assists the SLP with in-service training, and family or community education.
  • Participates in family and case conferences and meetings with the SLP and other staff.
  • Uses a wide range of equipment, such as low and high tech augmentative communication systems.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with school staff, community partners, families, and children.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard.
  • Uses verbal and written communication to interact with parents and/or caregivers and school personnel.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12 plus a Post Secondary Certificate or Diploma as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant or Rehabilitation Assistant diploma.
  • One year of recent experience working in the speech language pathology field
  • Knowledge of Truth and Reconciliation and its application in K-12 settings and a commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong communication skills (verbal, written and electronic formats) and ability to work as part of a team with colleagues, parents and children.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License.
