We are currently accepting applications for a CASUAL CUSTODIAN. 


Job Duties/Responsibilities and Details

The Peel District School Board is currently hiring casual custodians to work on an “as needed” basis within a designated geographical area of Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon).  Candidates are expected to be flexible to work varied shifts and be available on call a minimum of three days per week.  The hours of work will be 8 hours per day with varied start times, starting between 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and ending as late as 12:00 a.m. An exception is during the break periods of summer, March and winter breaks, where the start time will be 6:30 am. 

The duties of a casual custodian include assisting in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of school buildings, Board facilities and grounds to support an excellent learning and working environment for students, staff and the general public.  

Selected candidates will be required to complete a written test and demonstrate to the School Board that they have the physical capability to perform the essential physical duties of the job.  Upon start date, the successful completion of the Board’s Basic Custodial Training Course will be required.

This entry position may lead to permanent positions as a custodian.  Custodians are then able to apply for other custodial or maintenance positions if qualified. 

The preferred candidate for a casual custodian will have the following qualifications:


  • Secondary School Diploma. 

  • Successful completion of the Board’s Basic Custodial Training Course (upon start date).

  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position with regard to lawn cutting, snow removal, material and furniture handling, etc.

  • Physically fit and able to bend, walk, stand, push, pull, twist, climb stairs, and to lift on average 20 kilos.

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, products and procedures.

  • Commercial or industrial cleaning experience.

  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, to work effectively with Board personnel and outside agencies.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety.

  • Ability to work alone and in a team setting.

  • Requirement to work at various sites within the Peel Region.
