Invites applications for the position of:
Program Consultant (Acting)- Special Education - Elementary
Placement will be effective February 2023 to June 2023
The Special Education Program Consultant for the Elementary panel will act as a primary resource to the Superintendent of Schools and staff in assigned schools to implement Special Education programs and procedures. The Special Education Program Consultant will support Special Education Teachers in the development and the implementation of all YCDSB Special Education programs and student specific programming as required.
The Successful Candidate will:
- Be committed to the York Catholic District School Board’s Mission and Vision
- Foster a Catholic Learning Community, through leadership and collaboration
- Report to the Superintendent of Education: Exceptional Learners
- Act as a primary resource to the Coordinator of Special Programs: Elementary
- Have expertise in programming and data collection for a wide range of students with Special Education needs
- Maintain records and databases
- Liaise with Multidisciplinary Teams, Parents/Guardians and Community Partners
- Co-lead training in Special Education Programs and Initiatives in Special Education
- In-service groups of teachers/individuals on a broad range of topics pertinent to roles and responsibilities, procedures, assessment, programming and Special Education needs
- Provide capacity building, student specific consultation, observation/demonstration, and coaching as per Special Education Program Consultant Delivery Model
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- Part I of the Religious Education Course (or equivalent)
- Specialist in Special Education (Part I, II, III) or Master of Education in Special Education
- Recent Pastoral reference
- Minimum five years successful teaching experience, in two of the three divisions (Primary, Junior, Intermediate)
- Minimum of three years successful teaching experience as a Special Education Teacher (i.e., Core Resource Teacher, Alternative Program Teacher, Intensive Support and Assessment, Language Support Centre, Transitional Diagnostic Teacher, Divisional Program Teacher)
- Training and experience in Special Education programs (i.e., Assistive Technology, Applied Behaviour Analysis Strategies, Remediation Plus, Math Gap Closing, Safety Planning Guide, Social Skills Program) and Assessment (i.e., KTEA, Diagnostic Math Assessment, PPVT)
- Participating member of a Catholic worshiping community as attested to by the pastor
- Positive recommendation from present Principal and/or Superintendent of School
- Expertise in the relevant curriculum area(s) and specialization/certification (Special Education) as required by Ontario Regulation 298 (Operation of Schools – General) made under the Education Act
- Additional general criteria as outlined in Board Policy 405B “Appointments to Academic Administrative Positions”, located at www.ycdsb.ca
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
- Additional Qualification Course: Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- Demonstrated initiative, leadership and the ability to problem solve
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of teams
- Experience with staff development and/or working with parents
