Invites applications for the position of:
CUPE 1571 – Permanent Licensed Maintenance Worker - Carpenter
$34.21 to start, $34.42 hourly rate after probation
Position Summary:
Under the regular direction of the Maintenance Controller, the carpenter is responsible for repairing, installing and maintaining interior and exterior school structures and Board facilities.
Major Responsibilities:
-
Plan, layout and install building materials according to work orders, plans, specifications and building codes within all school board buildings.

Constructs, repairs and installs furniture, interior millwork, shelving, countertops and cabinets framing, formwork and finish carpentry skills
-
Repairs and replaces damaged flooring, ceramic tiles, vinyl composite tiles, vinyl/rubber baseboard, carpet, sheet flooring and wood floors.
-
Removes repairs and rebuilds walls and ceilings including framing, insulation, drywall, taping and sanding.
-
Installs repairs and replaces windows, doors, locks, crash bars, panic bars and all associated hardware.
-
Selects, prepares, operates and perform minor repairs to hand tools, power tools, stationary machines and other related equipment.

Maintains and repairs playground equipment/structures including fences and gates as required.

Performs minor masonry repairs to brickwork, blockwork and concrete as required
-
Build platforms and stairs as well as set up and use scaffolding as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
-
Grade 12 Diploma
-
Valid General Carpentry trade certificate issued by the Ontario Ministry of training
-
Minimum five years’ experience in general carpentry and/or construction.

Class “G” Ontario Drivers License in good standing. A driving abstract will be required
-
Thorough and current knowledge of the standards, practices, regulations, methods, tools and equipment of the trade
Skills and Competencies:

Strong interpersonal and oral communications skills
-
Physically capable of performing all duties of the trade
-
Able to work independently and at times work well and cooperatively in a team
environment.

Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and the following training: W.H.M.I.S, ARC flash, electrical safety, elevated work platforms, ladders, fall arrest, confined space, etc.

The primary function of the custodian is to maintain a clean, safe, healthy and efficient operation within a designated school or Catholic Education Centre as scheduled by the Head Custodian, and/or Lead Hand.
Major Responsibilities:

Maintain a clean, safe, healthy environment at a designated school property and ensure an efficient and economic operation.

Perform assigned duties as scheduled and/or assigned by the Head Custodian, Lead Hand and/or Facilities Services Unit Coordinator in a safe and efficient manner.
-
Responsible for reporting all deficiencies, maintenance requirements, vandalism and custodial supply inventory to the Head Custodian or Lead Hand as required.
-
Assist Community Use of Schools Permit Holders within the context of services provided by the Facilities Services Unit.
-
Report to the Head Custodian and/or Lead Hand, misuse of property and/or equipment by approved permit holders.
-
Ensure the security of the school facility and respond to emergencies after hours as required by the Facilities Services Unit.

Attend in-class and online training programs as well as meetings when required
-
Perform other duties as required within the context of the services provided by the Facilities Services Unit and as requested by the School Administration.

Receive deliveries and ensure all items are accounted for.
