MERRITT SECONDARY SCHOOL

  1.0 FTE Continuing full-time Secondary Counselling position, beginning September 1, 2022.

  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Counselling background with a Master’s Degree in Counselling preferred.
• Candidates who are enrolled in a Master’s Degree in Counselling will be considered.
• Knowledge and/or experience related to BC Secondary curricula, graduation requirements and Special Education Programs.
• Experience/training in supporting the social emotional learning needs of students and supporting school staff implementing such programs.
• Experience in working with the School Based Teams to provide integrated services to students.
• Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills that will facilitate individual and group counselling.
• Training and experience working with grade level students.
• Valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with BC Curriculum.
• Teaching category five or higher.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A commitment to supporting a variety of learning needs and inclusionary practices.
• Knowledge of protocol in working with other agencies.
• Training or experience in supporting the needs of First Nations students.
• Committed to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and parents.

Observation of the Human Rights Code of Canada and being Culturally Aware to all is a requirement for this position.
