Job Description & Requirements

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking qualified Indigenous Languages instructors to fill Continuing Education International & Indigenous Languages teaching and/or supply teaching positions for the 2020-2021 school year.  Classes take place virtually on Saturdays (1:00-3:30 pm) and during the week for the After School Program (Mondays & Tuesdays 4:00-5:15 pm). 

 The successful candidates will work for 2.5 hours per week until June 12, 2021.  The rate of pay for an IILP instructor ranges between $19.79 to $29.26 depending on qualifications and experience, including years of teaching experience with the OCDSB.


  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a program that is optimal for the Indigenous language learning and that reflects the standards of teaching practice in Ontario;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students;
  • Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., Google Meet, Google Classroom, Google Site, etc.) to be able to teach virtually;
  • Incorporate equitable and inclusive learning practices;
  • Assess and evaluate students’ progress;
  • Communicate students’ progress to parents/guardians and students;
  • Supervision of students in the virtual learning setting;
  • Attend professional development learning opportunities. 

Education, experience, and qualifications:

Applications will be considered on the basis of the following:

  • Fluency in Indigenous language(s);
  • Teaching experience, with preference to teaching experience of Indigenous language(s);
  • Related degree or diploma, with preference to Ontario College of Teachers’ certification or equivalent.


Preference will be given to candidates who are Indigenous.


Candidate selection will be based on the results of the interview, teaching experience, qualifications, and reference checks.

All offers of employment will be conditional upon the program running in the school year 2020-2021. 

 Instructors who are not currently OCDSB employees will be required to submit a valid Police Records Check for employment with the vulnerable sector, acceptable to the OCDSB, and less than 6 months old, prior to their first day of work.
